RE: List of members who suffered losses as a result of Hurricane Sandy
Dear ILA Locals:
As you may be aware, the International Longshoremen's Association, AFLCIO has established an ILA-Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund to benefit our members who suffered loses as a result of the storm. Donations are currently coming in to our International offices and if you have contributed or are going to contribute to this fund, I thank you.
I would ask that you begin to gather information from your membership as to who might have suffered losses due to this storm. Please send to me a list of members' names, the losses they suffered and the value of those losses. Some ILA members and their families suffered personal injury and death as a result of Hurricane Sandy while many other members' homes were destroyed or badly damaged.
I am putting together a committee of ILA officers to oversee the distribution of these funds to our members. Naturally, the amount we can distribute is dependent upon the amount of donations we receive. We are hoping this fund can alleviate some of the burden and financial hardship suffered by our members that is not covered by insurance or FEMA funds.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important effort. I thank you for your continued support.
