ILA Statement on U.S. Justice Department Refiling RICO Case

The International Longshoremen's Association, AFL-CIO regrets that the U.S. Justice Department has filed a second amended civil RICO complaint against the union.

Two months ago, Judge I. Leo Glasser dismissed the Government's civil RICO case against the ILA and the union stated that it hoped the Government would recognize that further litigation would not serve the public interest. The ILA is disappointed that the Government was not willing to even meet with the ILA so the ILA could explain its position

The ILA continues to believe that this case is based on outdated stereotypes of the ILA and is an insult to ILA members. Moreover, the substantial structural reforms initiated by the union clearly demonstrate the ILA's commitment to strengthening union members' rights and to running a clean union.
